HORRIBLE FACTS!!!!!
Related to country: Ghana

A doctor says Smoking is a destructive habit

Ghana's The Central Regional Deputy Director of Health Services in-charge of Clinical Care Division, Dr. Charles Ntiamoah Takyi, at the weekend described smoking as one of the most destructive habits which society must endeavour to avoid. He therefore, called on Parliament and the Government to heed advice by medical experts and other stakeholders to abolish the manufacturing of all types of tobacco and cigarettes in the country. Dr Takyi made the call when interacting with newsmen in Cape Coast. He pointed out that notwithstanding the contributions to the economy by cigarette manufacturers annually, the damage caused by smoking cant be quantified in terms of monetary gains. Dr Takyi cautioned smokers to eschew the habit that had adverse effect on their health as well as others in the society.

Rev Ministers says there is a moral angle to the cocaine problem

A Reverend Minister in Ghana has linked the worsening narcotic drug situation in the country to the increasing rate of moral decadence. According to Reverend Dei Awuku of an NGO known as Family Together Ghana, it seems more emphasis is being placed on the acquisition of material wealth without a casual look at how people make money. He believes social vices are on the rise because for now, being rich is all that matters to the majority of the people. He expressed these concerns in an interview on the on ongoing probe into the loss of a quantity of cocaine and issues arising out of the Justice Georgina Woode committee hearing. He seemed concerned also, about some religious leaders who are only interested in making money out of their congregation. In another interview, the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev Dr Fred Deegbe told SkyyNews that it is important that people who fluant their wealth in churches and other social gatherings are asked how they got such riches. He believes that if the tax administration system is also streamlined, a lot of people with illegally acquired wealth will be found out.

University accommodation problems worsen in Ghana
The Students Representative Council President of the University of Ghana, Fredrick Selaya has confirmed that the accommodation problem at the premier university has hit its peak, especially, with the arrival of fresh students for this academic year. Reports had suggested tat as a result of the accommodation problem on campus; both continuing and fresh students are paying huge sums of money for hostel accommodation. Students are paying between one million and four million cedis for either perching for a semester, or renting a private hostel. But whiles he denied that students are buying beds for almost twelve million cedis, the Legon SRC President admits that there is a critical accommodation problem. According to him, even though the students opposed the newly introduced balloting system of allocating rooms on campus, the university authorities went ahead with it. Bu then, is the situation any different at the University Of Cape Coast? Peter Jackson Wadja, the SRC President says the accommodation situation is so bad that most landlaorsd have doubled their rents just after school reopened recently. He beleives if the university authorities step in , the rent charges might be reduced.
